New account for ~
AquillaLightI do not have a paid account by choice. The community dA serves is worth it, but the service I've received, where my money would go, has shaken my interest.
My real journal is hosted on LJ:

My dA journal is purely meant for artistic happenings.
I'm a slow as molasses artist, so please watch my scraps too!

Found in a Art theft community, here,
[link]Mind Your Business: You Will Lose All The Rights to Your Own ArtI really don't understand the issue well, and I'm not a big name artist that is likely to have my livelihood jeopardized. Still, NO one wants their art stolen, and a lot of people are going nuts over this. To turn the internet into a royalty-free image database, and the possibility of your art being "claimed" by another at which point makes you as the creator fraudulent..... I really want to understand what I'm reading better. Before I plaster everything I own with watermarks so thick the drawing itself is lost.
Things like this scare me. I've had my art stolen from me before, too. Back in grade school when screaming and trying to punch the thief's lights out where completely justified..... even if not the best response. But RL or net, it still hurts.
Keep in mind, I was young, maybe 7 or 8 at the most...
It was some panda bear I worked hard on, lovingly bringing a panda to life on construction paper with thick Crayola markers. I couldn't find it after spending 2 nights drawing it and almost losing it in a rain puddle, and even carried it under my arm to school because it was too special to put in my backpack, but after lunch my art was gone!! I left it on my desk and when I came back, it wasn't there!
I tried to explain to my teacher it was right there and done before lunch, but I tore my desk apart trying to locate it not half an hour later.... (Giant pandas are all of what 2 colors? None is black and white are not "colors"?) I was to fail the project simply because I could not produce the bear I lovingly made for a grade. It walked off on me! I was in tears and all but bawling at the top of my lungs over it.
When I saw it again, badly markered in to be a brown bear and Brian's (the theft, holding it crinkled tightly in his dirty mitts) speech of "Yuh, i worked REALLY hurd on it.... but i changed my mind, cuz pandas stink...." I had to be restrained not to punch his lights out.
The ONLY proof I had was my name on the BACK of the sheet I drew the bear on. Proof that in fact I drew it, since after he was first seen with it till I saw it, there was no way for me to sign it. So then it got messy of failing the theft and trying to grade my butchered art between the natural color of the paper (yellow or orange construction paper), my own drawing/coloring style, the paper stressed and torn by me trying to rip my art BACK out of his hands, and a quick hasty brown cover-up trying to make it a brown bear in 5 minutes, but basically making mush.
PROVE that's my art?? Sheesh! And I did the project, he didn't or didn't think it would earn a good grade. And I was going to be penalized for doing my own homework!?
Will some dA watermark (or any) defray the worst? No. But it may be better than using nothing at all.
The really sad thing is if you can edit out a name, or crop the image to simply cut out the corner with the watermark, you can draw with those same stealing skills.
Thoughts on this?
